Economists predict that the current
unemployment rate of 6.5%, already the
highest in 14 years, will max out at 7% or 8%
by the end of 2009. The nation hasn't seen
levels like those in nearly two decades. This
coupled with the ease of credit in the past
years has led to the growth of consumer debt
at an incredible rate. Many people, have
encountered anxeity of the burden of this
debt and are also facing employment
challenges. The church has given the
following advice from the Provident Living
website:
"There is a way out. You can know of the
peace, security, and joy that come from
obedience to principles outlined by the Lord’s
servants. This course will help you
understand debt, and manage your finances
to avoid or eliminate it in your life. These
lessons will help you understand what you
need to change, and the steps you need to
take to be successful. "

Pay Tithes and Offerings: Successful family
finances begin with the payment of an honest
tithe and the giving of a generous fast
offering. The Lord has promised to open the
windows of heaven and pour out great
blessings upon those who pay tithes and
offerings faithfully (Malachi 3:10 and Isaiah
58: 6–12). Tithing: If our tithing is the first
obligation met, our commitment to this
important gospel principle will be
strengthened and the likelihood of financial
mismanagement will be reduced. Fast
Offerings: On fast day, we go without food
and drink for two consecutive meals, if
physically able, and then give to the bishop a
fast offering at least equal to the value of the
food not eaten. If possible, we should be very
generous and give more. The bishop uses
the fast offerings to care for the poor and
needy.

Avoid Debt Spending less money than you
make is essential to your financial security.
Avoid debt, with the exception of buying a
modest home or paying for education or other
vital needs. If you are in debt, pay it off as
quickly as possible. Some useful tools in
becoming debt free are a debt-elimination
calendar and a family budget worksheet.
Build a Reserve Gradually build a financial
reserve, and use it for emergencies only. If
you save a little money regularly, you will be
surprised how much accumulates over time.

Use a Budget Keep a record of your
expenditures. Record and review monthly
income and expenses. Determine how to
reduce what you spend for nonessentials.
Use this information to establish a family
budget. Plan what you will give as Church
donations, how much you will save, and what
you will spend for food, housing, utilities,
transportation, clothing, insurance, and so on.
Discipline yourself to stay within your budget
plan. A budget worksheet is a useful tool to
help you with your plan.

Planning Your Career:
You're most vulnerable to unemployment if
you work in a manufacturing or service
business tied directly to consumer spending,
such as autos, construction, retail, financial
services, travel or restaurants. If you work for
your state or local government, which likely
faces big budget cuts as tax revenue shrinks,
you'll also be at greater risk.
In 2009 it will be especially important to have
enough cash on hand to cover at least six
months of expenses - probably enough to tie
you over if you find yourself unemployed.
(The typical employment search now takes
4.4 months, up from 3.1 months in early
2008. Senior positions can take longer.)
The best way to avoid unemployment is to do
your job well and make sure your boss - and
his/her boss - knows about it. Volunteer for
assignments and take on additional duties if
there have been cutbacks. Ask your boss for
regular feedback about your performance.
Adding education credentials or job-specific
training can make you more valuable, Think
about what skills you can add to make
yourself more marketable, and don't forget to
take advantage of any tuition discounts that
your employer may offer.

They say truth can be found
everywhere. Sometimes we
just have to go looking for it.
In today's world, it seems like
someone or something is
holding us back. This video to
me proves that it's mostly
ourselves. Times maybe tough,
but they arent as tough as they
could be. Its not what we have,
but what we make of it.
Seems to me that we must
learn to adapt in order to
overcome.
