Train Wreck with Chemical Cargo
There are many reasons, accidental and
intentional, why people must be prepared for
biological, radiological and chemical
emergencies. The most common release of
airborne hazardous material is caused by a
train derailment.  Others occurrences are
much more rare. Below are the definitions of
each:

  1. Chemical Incident: The release of toxic
    industrial chemicals/other agents that
are capable of causing bodily harm or
    death.
  2. Biological Incident: The release of
bacteria, viruses, and/or toxins that are
capable of causing bodily harm or death.
  3. Radiological Incident: The release or
    exposure to and/or dispersal of
radioactive materials that are capable of
causing bodily harm or death. In each of
these cases, it’s important for members
to use the "seal" Shelter In Place
method.  Additional steps below will help
    in this type of crisis.

What should you do?

If you are informed of such a disaster, do
exactly what local and government agencies
tell you do to.  Additionally you should contact
your visiting/home teachers via email, cell
phone, or telephone and communicate your
situation.  When directed to do so, seal your
apartment windows and doors using plastic
sheeting and duct tape using the “seal”
Shelter-In-Place method.  Secure and lock all
doors and windows.  Turn off all heat and air

conditioning at the thermostat. Seal laundry
room & entry doors shut with duct tape around
all door jams and floor.  Seal all outside vents
and lock every window and outside door.  Use
your 72 Hour kit or 3 month supply to provide
for your needs until the danger is over. Use a
battery powered radio to get official local
information about when it is safe to emerge
from your apartment by tuning to a
local radio
station.  If there is a contaminant and it is
unsafe outside, do not allow ANYONE into
your home or apartment.
