Members of a local unit, branch or ward, have
many ways to stay informed before, during and
after a natural disaster or emergency. Being
informed helps members make decisions
based on the information they gather for the
benefit of themselves and their family.
Before a Disaster
Members should have a regular source of
local news and weather from many of the
regular broadcasts and newspapers. These
sources include radios (in the car or at home),
Local television stations, and the internet.
Members should read and watch news on a
regular basis as they deem appropriate.
During a Disaster
Members can tune to local radio stations to
find out about information during an emer-
gency. Talk to your local Emergency
Coordinator to find out which local stations are
best for you in your area. Additionally, all can
enrolled in an Alert Notification System which

allows them to be notified quickly in an
emergency. Email, Pagers, Cell phones and
even door to door contacting are used in the
Branch Alert Notification System.
After A Disaster
After a disaster members are encouraged to
stay informed from local news stations, local
emergency workers and church authorities. In
the event of an evacuation, members should
not return to their homes unless directed to by
local government authorities.
